How it works

Register

Published by Oliver and Boyd, 1960. 1st edition. First edition. 301pp. Illustrated profusely with photographs and maps. Prelims and endpapers lightly browned and foxed o/w contents fresh and clean. Very good in a wrapper that is creased and chipped to head of spine and corners and sl. soiled to rear panel and spine. Uneven fade to spine. Covers the First World War in Kenya, The Middle East and then The War Office and France. Ian Fleming was a fan of this writer's works.

Meinertzhagen never intended for his journals to be published and so there is no sense of him moderating his thoughts or attitudes in view of a potential audience; rather, he is often remarkably forthright in his comments, particularly regarding his military superiors like Allenby, and it is this aspect which gives this work such a fresh appeal.
