Covers the First World War in Kenya, The Middle East and then The War Office and France. Ian Fleming was a fan of this writer's works.
Meinertzhagen never intended for his journals to be published and so there is no sense of him moderating his thoughts or attitudes in view of a potential audience; rather, he is often remarkably forthright in his comments, particularly regarding his military superiors like Allenby, and it is this aspect which gives this work such a fresh appeal.
