Single page, A4 (296 x 210 mm), folded in three and with the original envelope.

The letter is headed: D220/82: NELSON MANDELA, and dated 7.4.88.

It bears the Censor stamp and date – 1988-04-13 and another date stamp 1988-04-18

Mr Mandela writes to Pricilla Jana, ‘Dear Priscilla, With reference to your letter of 22 March 1988, I wish to advise that your visit during May/June 1988 will be in order. Meantime I send you best wishes and fondest regards. Sincerely, Nelson.’

The envelope, bearing stamps and a certified mail sticker, is addressed in Mr Mandela’s hand and bears the return address of Pollsmoor  Maximum Prison on the back.

Priscilla Jana, well-known human rights lawyer, represented Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Archbishop Tutu and others. She was elected to Parliament in 2004 and served as Deputy Chair of the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Affairs and was a member of the Law Commission on Security Legislation. She was appointed South African Ambassador to the Netherlands in 2001 and to Ireland in 2005.
