How it works

Register

The scarce pilot issue of this important and ongoing UNISA Department of Art magazine which was edited by Walter Battiss with a double page drawing by him of the PACT orchestra. Of importance is the loosely inserted Cecil Skotnes graphic hand numbered (78/500) and signed and titled in pencil by Skotnes 'Figure Composition'. This graphic is usually missing from this issue as it was commonly removed and framed. The glossy front wrapper has a Battiss design. The envelope tipped in to the reverse of the front wrapper contains a large single page review by Neville Dubow of the state of art in S.Africa in 1964 and serves as an introduction to this new periodical. There are other interesting contributions to this issue including Villa on Rodin, Anton Van Wouw and an early article by Esme Berman on art in Johannesburg. But the Skotnes graphic is the highlight. Signature on first page otherwise a very good clean copy. 34pp.
