This book was produced to accompany the exhibition titled Beads of Life: Eastern and Southern African Adornments held in the Canadian Museum of Civilization in April 2005.
Materials used prior to the arrival of mass-produced imported beads are covered and then the fusion of traditional and modern materials is addressed. The scale of Canadian holdings are considerable. The Royal Ontario Museum alone holding more than 7,000 objects.
