The ornithologist Harry Witherby's account of his journey to and research on the White Nile. Witherby (1873-1943) travelled extensively to aid his research, visiting Iran, Russia, and Africa, even taking his wife with him on his travels and teaching her how to skin birds on their honeymoon. Witherby created the British Birds magazine, served as president of the British Ornithologists' Union, was made an honorary member of the American Ornithologists' Union, and was the first to start a bird ringing scheme.
