First edition of Schoeman's book on the early history of Bloemfontein which is still used today as a standard reference.
Schoeman was a recluse and known for almost never signing his books. Only five copies of this title were signed by Schoeman at the book launch in September 1980 in Bloemfontein. This copy was signed for Henna Opperman, who aided him with his research for the book. Until very recently Henna Opperman was working for the NALN (National Afrikaans Literary Museum) but is now retired. Her name is neatly written on the front end paper. The name of Johan Wolfaardt, another previous owner, is also on the front endpaper. Wolfaardt is also a historian and regularly consults for South African film production companies regarding the historical accuracy of scripts, costumes, and weapons. A unique association copy.
