Original hand-written letter by Boer prisoner-of-war, Roelof Theunes Johannes van Rooyen, to Annie Birkenstock. Dated 11 April, 1902. Van Rooyen was interned at BB (Broad Bottom) Camp, St Helena and his letter was mailed to Lange Loop, Pietermaritzburg.
The four page letter comes with the envelope in which it was mailed and a cabinet card of van Rooyen. A decorative red ribbon is attached to the first page. The text, in Dutch-Afrikaans in blue ink is clear and legible. There are a few small holes on the second leaf with minimal loss to text.
