Based on the life of Muriel Alexander, one of the few actresses to have a theatre named after her.

Her story will be of interest to many people, outlined as it is against the bizarre years of the early 1900's, continuing right up to modern times. We meet famous people who crossed her path such as Tree, Ellen Terry, Bernard Shaw, Pinero and many South Africans who have achieved fame.

The book ranges from London to the Cape, from Durban to the Zambesi, and whilst mainly describing the theatre in Southern Africa, it should have appeal to those whose interest in the theatre is lukewarm.

The head on the wrapper is Herman Wald’s bust of Muriel Alexander.
