Full page wood engraved print from the ILN, November 19, 1870. Page 529. An article on the back (page 530) describes The Capetown New Harbour and Docks.
In very good condition. Interestingly this print clearly shows the technique by which such large prints were engraved to meet the deadlines required by the magazine The Illustrated London News. It is comprised of 12 blocks of wood (usually boxwood) engraved on the end grain by different engravers working simultaneously which were then bolted together in a form for printing.
