This is the rare first edition of this work which was republished (with translations) by the University of Port Elizabeth in 1975. No copy of this edition is recorded in any South African library in SABIB Vols. 1-5. Steinbart was the German Military Colonist to British Kaffraria in the Cape Province and an important land surveyor of the Border territories. He was one of the earliest Jewish immigrants to South Africa.
12mo. (170x110mm.) Zwickau. 1859. 96pp. Rebound in quarter cloth and paper covered boards. Appears to be missing both front and rear free endpapers. With a German library sticker on the front pastedown and a small neat rubber stamp on the title page which also bears a contemporary ownership signature. Binding moderately worn. Some foxing especially on the title page.
