The book has been described as a blend of botany with practical expertise in growing a range of exciting plants. Part One deals with the floristic regions of southern Africa and the general principles of cultivation, propagation and disease control. Part two deals with the families of bulbous plants distribution and morphology of each genus. 700 species are described and over 300 plants are illustrated in 47 colour plates. The book is a very fine distillation of art and science. This book will be of great value to both botanists and gardeners. 47 full page colour plates with watercolour illustrations by Elise Bodley. Other incidental small illustrations and area maps. Front and back endpapers show a regional map of southern Africa in colour. Pages [1-6]7-192. Slight creasing into right hand corner of front dust cover. Book has been well protected by an attractive slip cover. Slip cover has small bumped area at one top corner and a 2 mm scratch on the back. Red cloth-covered boards with gold title on spine and gold design on front. Book is in Fine condition.
