Bushman Raiders of the Drakensberg 1840-1870. A study of their conflict with stock-keeping peoples in Natal. This study merely tries to describe, on the basis of documentary evidence to be found mainly in the Natal Archives in Pietermartizburg, something of the Natal side of the story in the hope that it will throw some light on the reasons for the disappearance of the Bushman from the Drakensberg-Maluti region. The thirty-year period covered by the bulk of the documentary material begins soon after the whites had begun to settle in Natal in some numbers in the late 1830's and ends with the last of the Bushman raids into Natal in about 1872.
Even with the demise of the Bushman, to this day stock losses continues to be a thorny bone of contention along the borders of Natal-Lesotho(Drakensberg Heritage Site). ix plus 235 pages detailed text with large folding map to rear and illustrations to text- some in colour.Light offset to ends.
