Two consecutive issues, November and December 1870, of this scarce early periodical in the original orange printed wraps. Each issue has 64 pages. Articles include: Life at The Cape - By a Lady (Ref Lady Anne Barnard), The Bojala - A Bechuana Ceremonial, The Ba-Ntu Prefixes - by Rev. F.W. Kolbe, The Geology of the Diamondiferous Regions of South Africa - The State Diamond Fields of Du-Toit's Pan, and much else.
The inside of the front wrapper stares: The Cape Monthly Magazine is the only Literary Periodical published in South Africa. These two issues complete the First Volume of the New Series.
Some fraying of the covers, mainly at the spine, and a few pages have closed tears. Many pages unopened. Generally in very good condition for these fragile items about 150 years old! Scarce thus.
