Formerly in Possession of the Dutch, but lately ceded to the crown of England and which are to be colonised with every possible Despatch, under the authority of the British Government, by Agriculturalists and artificers of every denomination from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

By Captain Benjamin Stout Late Commander of the American East-Indiaman named the Hercules, lost on the coast of Caffraria, within a few miles of the River Infanta, where the Grosvenor perished in 1782.

Likewise a luminous and affecting detail of Captain Stout's travels through the deserts of Caffraria and the Christian settlements to the Cape.

144 pages,), original paper covered boards worn and frayed around the edges, titling in black on the spine is rubbed, page edges uncut, inscription of a previous owner on the second front free endpaper and another signature at the head of the title page, contents crisp, a very good copy in the original boards.

One of a series of publications to appear at the time to promote the settlement of the Easten Cape. The editor hyperbolises in an introductory note, 'The advantages which must arise to the British settlers on their arrival in those fertile regions northward of the Cape (and which they are to cultivate and inherit), by possessing a faithful delineation of their fertility and beauty, may be easily conceived. The reader will soon discover that Captain Stout was so enamoured of the countries through which he passed that he strongly recommended to his patron and relative, Mr Adams, to form an American settlement on the eastern coast of Caffraria; but this measure was not approved by the president, and for the same reasons which were anticipated by Captain Stout in his introductory address.'
