xii, 187, (i blank) pages, engraved title page vignette, 2 folding garden plans, engraved portrait of the author, 50 full-page plates, some light browning, sprinkled calf, gilt decorated spine, sprinkled page edges, worming along the spine particularly at the bottom but this does not penetrate to the body of the book.

Overall a good copy in a contemporary binding with a presentation inscription from the author on the half title page which reads, 'All Illmo. Sig. Matteo Giorgi Genova l'Autore' (the lower part of the inscription has been cropped in the binding).

Hunt 547. 'The Botanical Gardens at Pisa was founded around 1543 and was (with that at Padua 1545) one of the first such gardens in Europe.'

Gunn & Codd: Botanical Exploration of Southern Africa, page 62, 'Another publication......was the account of the plants growing in the Pisa University garden by Michael Angelo Tilli (1655 - 1740), Professor of Botany at Pisa, entitled Catalogus Plantarum Horti Pisani, Florence 1723. Included are fifty plates, eight of which depict South African plants, mostly Aloes and related genera.'
