An official handbook describing the social, official, farming, mining, and general progress and possibilities of the Administrative Capital and surrounding districts.
Book contains many illustrations and photographs. Fold-out panorama of Pretoria seen from the Union Buildings at front (short tear along the top third of the first fold with no loss).
Book is in very good condition. 164pp + adverts at rear.
Printed by The Government Printing and Stationery Office in 1913. The print-run was 15,000 copies but after more than a century the book has become very uncommon.
2.) Paff's Plan of the administrative Capital of Pretoria and Suburbs (1929)
Published by The Pretoria Map Office in 1929.
104pp stapled softcover.
Contains guide & index showing suburbs, streets, house-numbers, public buildings, post offices, tram and bus routes, sports grounds etc., as well as numerous adverts from the period. The Lion Beer advert (see below) is what probably became Lion Lager years later.
Very good condition although the map supplement is no longer present.
