In 1906 a young British civil servant working in Pretoria sent picture postcards of the city every week to his fiancé Meg in Yorkshire. He sent her a map of the town and suggested she mark the places shown on the cards. “That way you will have a good idea of the place before you arrive”, he wrote on one of the cards. On others he makes observations and comments on the town as he saw it.Meg kept all the cards and they were passed down the family. In 1976 The Star ran a 7 part feature on the cards, showing the cards alongside contemporary photos. The articles are included in the lot. The cards are a mixture of black and white and coloured photos and all have comments on the back. The cards were inserted into envelopes so have no stamps or franking. A really lovely collection of Pretoria ephemera.
