First edition second impression: 331 pages, maps as end papers, red cloth faded and worn, watermarks on the covers, bottom edge uncut, split at the bottom edge of the spine on the upper cover, titled gilt on the spine now faded, a good copy.

Owners signature on the half title page Tom Moore Cape Town 1930. Tom Moore was the quantity surveyor who worked with Sir Herbert Baker on the construction of the Union Buildings

On the same page is the inscription: With my best regards Denys Reitz 1930.

The first edition was published in October 1929 and the Second impression in November of the same year.

Loosely inserted is a copy of an article from the Star Today December 12 1983 "The book Smuts waited 25 years for."
