From the library of the late South African novelist, poet and academic Stephen Gray, who was one of the founding editors and a regular contributor to the Izwi magazine.

A scarce complete set of Izwi magazines, a famous independent literary magazine of 1970’s. This set comes from the library of the late Stephan Gray, one of the founding editors of this publication, and as poet a regular contributor to it. Such famous South African artists as Christo Coetzee, Cecil Skotness and Walter Battiss contributed signed and numbered prints to several issues. As a complete set this is very scarce and difficult to find. All the issues have been collated and are complete with all the prints and posters present.

Condition: Overall very good. The covers have slight rubbing, and light sunning to the spines of some issues. Minor creases to bottom edges of pages and covers of no. 1. Tape stains to the rear of the print of no. 5, and with some offsetting to 17. Gray’s signature to front cover of vol. 6. Slight, superficial insect damage to front cover of no. 13, and small stains to its rear cover. Small area with correction fluid on front cover of vol. 14. Light bump to tail of spine of no. 15. Light edgewear and chipping to edges of cover of vol. 16 where they overhang the textblock, and small closed tear to its spine. Minor indentations to front cover and first few pages of no. 18. Crease to rear cover of vol. 19/20. Texts are clean, and prints and posters are clean and bright.
