Hardcover Octavo bound in Dark red cloth boards and has 212 pages. Gilt titling to the spine which are faded. Head and heal are bumped with rubbing along the edges. There is a minor split on the inside front binding, but still intact.

Being the first part of the original volume entitled ‘Coomassie and Magdala’, with numerous illustrations from drawings by Melton Prior (special artist in Ashantee of the Illustrated London News) and other artists, also has a map of the route of expedition to Coomassie.

Previous owners’ inscriptions on the front pastedown/end paper, some offsetting can be seen on the front/rear pastedown and end papers. Overall, both the binding and the book are in good.
