This scarce and important document deals with a turning point in South African history, with the Xhosa referring to this Frontier War as "Hintza's War" and in the climate of a loss of faith in British rule this war is also regarded as a principal cause of the Boer Great Trek.

Later dark blue leather and book cloth binding by Aquarius of London, with gilt titling and gilt decorated raised bands on the spine. New end papers. There is a blank leaf bound between pages 52 and 53. Original 124 pages, fold out map of Queen Adelaide Province between pages 56 and 57, the second fold out map showing the extent of the invasion between pages 104 and 105, black and white in-text illustrations on pages 107 and 108.

CONDITION DETAILS: Several pages have edge tears. A few tears have been repaired with tape that has become yellowed. Some soiling and aging throughout.
