Cottar, an American sportsman, traveled to Kenya in 1909, hunted for big ivory from 1915-1918, then subsequently guided big game safaris into the modern era. With his sons, he formed Cottar Safari Services. This work is based on his diary and includes numerous hunting experiences and his own severe mauling by a leopard.
