Crocosmia and Chasmanthe, by Peter Goldbatt, John Manning, Gary Dunlop and illustrations by Auriol Batten.
Here at last, the scientific and horticultural importance of these besutiful bulbs is fully explained and illustrated. Spring-flowering Chasmanthe, from winter-rainfall Cape region of South Africa, is a plant for areas of mild winter, but Crocosmia, from the summer-rainfall forests and grasslands of eastern southern Africa and Madagasgar, can endure winter temperatures. The species and cultivars flower from early summer well into autumn and provide wonderful displays of warm red and orange when the garden often has little else to offer except annuals.
This book is superbly illustrated with watercolours by the renowned botanical artist Auriol Batten. The paintings of the species and many of the more important cultivars are complemented by charming pencil sketches of each species in its native habitat. Hardback with unclipped dustcover- 219 pages text supported with illustrations. FINE.
