The 1917 book shows signs of rubbing and loss of colour on edges and at the back of the dark blue cloth-covered boards. Sellotape marks, previous owner neat signature on dark green endpapers, and signs of careful strengthening of the binding.
Some foxing on the prelim page. Map in holder on inside back cover. Map in good condition.
The 1938 book has different photographs, decorated cloth-covered boards and 2 neat notes on ffe. Edge foxing on prelim page, map bound into book at end. Book in very good condition. Note changed spelling of Trigardt's name from Dutch to Afrikaans. Preface and explanations of 2nd edition in Afrikaans.
Separately and/or together these two books are historically important documents, showing a part of southern Africa as it was before the move up north, Trigardt and the Buys family being the first arrivals.
