From the foreword: The architect William Timlin, who would become the Northern Cape’s best known artist, was the leader of the Arts and Crafts Section of the Athenaeum. This section came into the public realm though the publication of Daubs, a hand produced quarterly magazine extolling the art of its members. At times presumptuous, at times viciously funny Daubs was always entertaining and enlightening and brings a period of Kimberly to life, like no other publication before.
