First edition: xv, 215 pages, frontispiece portraits, 3 facsimile documents – (the one on page 8 is lacking), patterned end papers, all edges gilt, pebble grained maroon cloth binding over bevelled boards, titled gilt on the upper cover and spine, the front cover has several water stains at the top, a good copy.
The inscription opposite the half title page reads: Ter Gedachtenis Generaal Louis Botha van de schryver D E Van Velden Pretoria 1909
On the front paste down end paper is the following hand written note: Onder ‘n klomp rommel wat verbrand moet word, is hierdie waardevolle boek gevind en.. gered. En toe aan my geskenk, J A Heyl.
The bookplate of General Louis Botha 12th August 1909 to June 1919 is pasted at the bottom of this page which reads Rusthof Library. Rusthof was the name of his farm.
