Removable Glossy Surface Samples.

Vol. 1. 3 p. Text, 11 thick leaves with slots for holding samples. 

Vol. 2.  1 p., 11 thick leaves with slots for holding samples. Back cover pocket has misc. printed ephemera, booklets and “masks”, including a catalog for ordering materials and a booklet on using the book of color.

According to the catalog, “ the samples are displayed in white stamp stock sheets, imprinted with hue, value and China notations...,the charts are arranged with neighboring hues on facing pages are contained in two black fabrikoid, gold-stamped, three-ring binders”. (1958 price, $135)

Binders: 2.5R - 10G / 2.5BG - 10RP.

A working set with occasional soiling, some color stains, wear to samples, but generally good or better.

 Remarkably, after 60+ years only 1 tile is missing. 

“In the early editions of The Munsell Book of Color, the chips had a matte surface. In 1958, a glossy version was introduced, to improve the reliability of comparisons of the standards to paints, plastics and other materials with glossy surfaces.“  Munsell website.
