The 9th Queen's Royal Lancers was a cavalry regiment of the British Army, first raised in 1715. It saw service for three centuries, including the First and Second World Wars. The regiment survived the immediate post-war reduction in forces, but was amalgamated with the 12th Royal Lancers to form the 9th/12th Royal Lancers in 1960.
During the Second Boer War, the regiment took part in the Battle of Belmont and the Battle of Modder River in November 1899, as well as the Battle of Magersfontein in December 1899, Relief of Kimberley in winter 1899 and the subsequent Battle of Paardeberg which resulted in Piet Cronjé’s surrender in February 1900. The regiment provided Lord Roberts’ escort for his state entry into Bloemfontein. After the war, the regiment returned to Sialkot in the Punjab
