xv + 210 leaves printed in 420 double columns, ornately titled and decorated blue cloth, patterned endpapers, colour frontispiece and 3 colour plates with tissue guards, other illustrations from photographs and sketches throughout, 2 maps - 1 large folding in colour at the end of the Boer republics. The binding is of the stapled type common to books produced in Germany at the end of the 19th century and two sections are loose. The cloth is a little dull and worn at the top and bottom of the spine and along the edges.
