Three-quarter cloth binding with gilt titles on spine and marbled boards.

144pp. with 2 folding plates, 24 images in text and 1 map.

Text clean, binding tight. Bookplate of former owner Prof Hermann Wagner (1840-1929) who was a geographer, cartographer, author and editor of scientific journals.

Siegfried Passarge (1866-1958) was a geologist, ethnographer and Professor in Geography at the universities of Berlin and Breslau. He travelled extensively throughout Southern Africa and wrote and published account on the physical geography of the Kalahari desert in 1904. His account of the Bushmen people of the region followed three years later. His travels in Southern Africa occurred during the period of the Anglo-Boer War and he published an account of the outbreak of hostilities in 1899.  Passarge's theories of racial geography were embraced by the Nazi Party after 1933.
