xxiii, (i errata), 686, (ii publisher’s catalogue) pages, folding frontispiece, 4 folding plates and plans, 8 tinted lithographic plates, 1 plate of inscriptions, 2 folding maps at the end, numerous
wood-cut illustrations in the text, brown straight-grained cloth stamped in blind and gilt titled on the spine, original terracotta endpapers. The hinges are parting but the binding is tight, the frontispiece, title page and folding maps at the end are foxed and there is some occasional foxing elsewhere in the text and on the page edges.
