Account of the first Europeans to sight Lakes Turkana (Rudolf)and Chew Bahir (Stefanie), in Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia, which region they explored while Count Teleki hunted extensively and von Hoehnel collected botanical specimen. The work has been re-bound in full navy calf with gilt decoration and bands on spine, while original decorative gilt motif from front covers has been laid down on new boards. Both vols are contained in a custom-made slipcase.435 + 397 pp with frontis portrait, sketch map and two sheets of folding maps,numerous engraved plates and text engravings all present. Books are still mostly unslit, but a few pages show signs of rough slitting. Isolated spots of very light foxing, but vol 2 has damp marking penetrating onto bottom margins on some two hundred pages in the middle of the textblock, some rippling of pages. Otherwise this uncommon set is in good condition.
