This copy is inscribed by the author's nephew, Judge Oliver Deneys Schreiner, who was one of South Africa's most renowned Judges. For political reasons he was passed over twice for the position of Chief Justice of South Africa. He was the son of William P. Schreiner, Prime Minister of the Cape Colony during the Boer War. His uncle on his mother's side was President F. W. Reitz, thus meaning that Deneys Reitz, author of the famous Boer War memoir "Commando", was his cousin.
This copy is clean internally with only a light pen inscription at the top of the title page stating "1st ed" and the publication date written below the Roman numerals at the bottom of the page. The binding is tight although the boards have some rubbing at the spine ends and on the corners. A bookplate was removed on the front pastedown as per image.
