The frontispiece is a facsimile, but the are the other 5 color plates (chromolithographs), and illustrations in text. Original cloth in fragile, soiled condition, outer and inner hinges splitting, all page edges gilt. Baker, who is most famous for his exploration in search of the Nile, lived for years and traveled extensively in Ceylon and describes the natural history, villages, peoples, agriculture, etc. The plates are mainly of hunting scenes and wildlife, from the author's paintings. The later editions did not have color plates.
