Two volume set. Re-cased with new red leather spines with gilt titling and retaining the original red cloth covered boards with decorative blind stamped decorations. New bright blue end papers with a decorative gilt pattern.

Volume one: The first two pages are publisher's advertisements followed by the engraved frontispiece, xxx prelims, 359 pages and a total of 5 illustrations, two of which are in text.

Volume two has iv prelims, 456 pages and a total of four black and white illustrations.

CONDITION DETAILS: The leather spines are new, but the colouring matches the original red cloth. The original boards show signs of edge wear, use and age. The frontispiece in volume one has a large stain - see images showing reverse and front - and it has been trimmed down in size being a few mm's shorter than normal full page size. The frontispiece of volume two has been repaired with a small piece of paper on the reverse side of the image to mask some closed tears.
