Thomas Baines was ill before and after his return from South West Africa resulting in the manuscript being sent unknowingly incomplete to the publisher and printer. Printing was underway when an additional batch of manuscripts were found. It was too late to repaginate the book thus resulting in the new scrips being inserted in the correct positing, thus increasing the pages from 535 to 602 pages. The new information is recorded in the index.
