Hardcover Folio bound in maroon cloth boards and has 111 pages. The dust jacket and the book are in excellent condition (As New).

Peter Clarke is best known for work which reflects the harsh social realities of the disempowered in the Cape. Over the past few years he has been working on a series of collages, entitled Fanfare, which are each accompanied by prose.

To date he has completed approximately 70 fan-shaped collages out of a projected 100. The works have been inspired primarily by historical, biblical or literary figures, as well as people who have had a direct influence on Clarke’s life.

Accompanying each ‘fan’ are a few paragraphs of beautifully written text describing the particular person's thoughts. In some cases the prose includes quotes from the character’s own writings, and in others Clarke creates dialogue that he imagines would represent their thought processes.

The fan series therefore draws both on Clarke's visual and literary talents – a fitting culmination to the career of an artist and writer who turned 75 in 2004. The exhibition of Clarke’s Fanfare series will be accompanied by the launch of a book in celebration of the work of this important artist.
