A fine 2pp. autograph letter from Alfred Milner dated July 7th. '95 to Toynbee (probably Harry Valpy Toynbee, father of the well known historian). Milner thanks Toynbee for his congratulations for his been awarded the K.C.B. "I think I was lucky to get it so soon. I hope too to someday, though it may be a long way off, to get some other wish than my present. I am very fond of finance, but I should like, before I am done (if I am to go on for while yet), to have a turn at administration. The service of the country abroad is what attracts me most." On the front and rear first page of a folded leaf. There is a stain on the blank second page but the letter itself is in very good condition.
