120 pages, Large Folio (495 x 350 mm), 38 plates – 16 printed in 8-colour photo-litho-offset (1 of which is a 980 x350 mm foldout) and 22 in monochrome collotype, all with tissue guards, half red morocco titled gilt on the spine, marbled paper sides, decorated endpapers, contained in a marbled paper and red cloth slip-case. Very light foxing on the endpapers, also on the tissue guard of the title page.

This is a very good copy. The text includes Avery good and extensive introduction by Sitwell, the Bibliography, a list of species and a comprehensive Index. This edition was made and designed for William Collins, 14 St. James’s Place, London, and D. Van Norstrand Company, Inc., New York, by George Rainbird and Ruari McLean at 8 Whyndham Place, London, W.1.

The plates were printed in 8-colour photo-litho-offset and collotype monochrome by Van Leer of Amsterdam. The colour plates are extremely beautiful. The text pages were set in Monotype Bembo and printed by the Chiswick Press of London.

The binding was executed by Mansell of London. 295 numbered copies were printed on Pannekoek mould made paper and 2000 copies on Van Gelder mill paper. This is numbered 228, and the colophon is signed by Sacheverell Sitwell, Handasyde Buchanan, and James Fisher.
