This lot comprises five "Vigilance Papers" published by the South African Vigilance Committee, whose aim was, amongst others "To collect and focus the views of all sections of South African Citizens who are convinced of the essential justice of Alfred Milner's Policy" and "To set forth to the British public the necessity for the prosecution of the present war to a thoroughly successful termination". The Chairman of the Committee was Sir J. Gordon Sprigg. The five pamphlets, all published in 1900 and all in the original printed wrappers of various colours, are:
