378 + 32 pages publisher's catalogue dated June 1859, wood-engraved frontispiece and 17 plates, green blind stamped cloth, titled gilt on back - splitting and chipped at the top and bottom of the spine, hinges simply repaired with cellotape, inscription on the front free endpaper, embossed private library stamp on frontispiece, binder's ticket of Edmonds & Remnants on the rear paste-down endpaper.
Presentation inscription reads, 'Stuart Cloete from Philip Millin, to remind him of happy days in Johannesburg, August 1947,' Philip Millin (1888 - 1952) was a well-known jurist, author of legal texts and husband of Sarah Gertrude Millin.
