Two volume set. Original brown cloth covered boards with gilt titling and pictorial decorations on the spine and the upper board. Reddish colored end papers. Both volumes have a small John Foster book plate on the front paste downs. All the illustrations are in black and white. Both volumes have a frontispiece followed by a vignette half title. Volume one has xvi prelims, 388 pages, seven illustrations with tissue guards, with the map at the rear. Volume two has x prelims, 381 pages, and eleven illustrations, including the frontispiece and the half title vignette.

CONDITION DETAILS: The spine of volume one is hanging loose. Both bindings need to be repaired. Internally reasonable with scattered foxing.
