Jan van Riebeeck, Portuguese flags and ensigns, The House of Orange, Dutch Flags and Ensigns, Ciphers of the Dutch East India Company, English Flags and Ensigns, Cape Town Castle, British Flags and Ensigns, List of Dutch Commanders and Governors, 1927 Flag Act etc.

All plates with flags have their descriptions corresponding with their individual numbers on the facing page, an interesting example is the description for flag no. 40 on page 45, which reads as follows:

"THE RUSTENBURG TRANSVAAL VIERKLEUR" (1857). When on 9.3.1857 the first "Vierkleur" (four colours) was to be raised in Rustenburg, there was no red cloth of any kind to be got there. So the first Vierkleur was made provisionally with brown cloth.
