First edition with 400 pages, frontispiece, illustrated throughout with photographs and line drawings in the wide margins, brown cloth. Inscription in ink of a previous owner on title page. A very good copy in the dust jacket.

'Food from the Veld describes over a thousand wild plants which are known to be eaten in southern Africa, ranging from delicious and highly-prized herbs and fruits to roots and tubers providing food and water during times of famine or drought. Each plant is botanically identified and described, with the common names in all southern African languages, followed by details of distribution and, finally, what is known about its use - which parts are eaten, how it is prepared and, when necessary, whether any precautions should be taken.'
