185 pages, frontispiece portrait of King Edward VII, portraits, page edges in red to match full maroon calf, titled gilt on upper cover and spine, patterned end-papers, inner gilt dentelles, page edges dyed light red, a very good copy.

Hackett (R.G.) South African War Books, An Illustrated Bibliography (1994), page 14: A volume in praise of patriots who followed the flag to South Africa. Contents include a record of the war, incidents of battle, Generals in the war and a chapter on the Victoria Cross and those who gained it. References to Canadians and their part in the conflict appear throughout.

Mendelssohn (Sidney) South African Bibliography volume 1, page 961: Parts I. and II. take the form of a chronological record of the war, with quotations and records of incidents from various sources. Parts III.-X. relate to the Canadian Contingents and Lord Strathcona, the Australian Contingents, the British Generals, the recipients of the Victoria Cross. The volume contains a number of original poems on the various incidents.
