First edition: 343 pages, frontispiece portrait, 20 illustrations, map of Arctic Regions as endpapers, dark red cloth gilt, dust jacket. The cloth is lightly water stained at the bottom of the spine and the adjoining last twenty pages of the text are slightly rippled. A good copy.

The inscription on the title page reads, "To Brian Frost with best wishes, Lief Mills."

'Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages. Bitter cold. Long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful, "What sort of man would this apocryphal advertisement attract? None but the brave. Frank Wild was one of those Argonauts who battled against the elements in the frozen lands. When some of the men who had been isolated with the Ross Sea party were eventually rescued, the captain described them as: "Just about the wildest gang of men I have ever seen in my life." Despite unending hardships, Wild undertook more Antarctic exploration voyages than any of his contemporaries over a period of twenty years. This is his story.' Editor's note.
