Unlike all the other fifty volumes in the Africana Collectanea series this is not a facsimile reprint because the printing of the first edition was too poor for photographic reproduction. The eight illustrations are taken from Backhouse's A Narrative of a Visit to the Mauritius and South Africa with a tint added for this edition.
