A collection of 68 watercolours by C.G.Finch-Davies. A limited edition # 401 of 5026. Slipcase and dust jacket Fine.190pp including list of benefactors. originally, the paintings were commissioned by Boyd Robert Horsbrugh, to illustrate his book "The Game Birds and Waterfowl of South AFrica", published in London in 1912. It was widely acclaimed and brought Finch-Davies recognition as an outstanding bird artist. All 68 illustrations are exceptional in that they have coloured backgrounds, whereas Finch-Davies's other paintings (numbering over 1000) have simple, pencilled in ones. This collection of originals came to light, through their donation to the Transvaal Museum, Pretoria by Boyd Horsbrugh's nephew who lives in USA. The text accompanying each plate has been compiled by Dr. Alan Kemp of the Transvaal Museum, providing a useful insight into the biology of the species covered in this work.
