Thiele. Berlin: Nicolai, 1856-1863; 1866-1893. 2 volumes (Vol. 1, 252p. , with 20 plates; Vol. 2 , 409p., with 33 plates). (Foxing, staining). Cloth-backed marbled boards, spine labels.

Provenance: Christoph Gottfried Andreas Giebel (1820-1881, professor of zoology at the University of Halle, anti-Darwin, volume I only: ink stamp to title); Johann Friedrich "Fritz" Borcherding (1849-1924, book label on inside covers of both volumes, a German educator and naturalist; Richard I. Apparently bound from a collection of separately issued parts.   Troschel's Das Gebiss der Schnecken "...which appeared in Berlin from 1856 to 1893, is the largest comparative study of molluscan radulae ever published.  The basis of our modern classification of gastropods rests in part on this monumental work...[T]he dates of publication of the various parts of Das Gebiss der Schnecken cannot be determined from the book itself and are not readily available elsewhere." Robertson, Robert. "Publication dates of Troschel's Das Gebiss der Schnecken." Reprinted from THE NAUTILUS, Vol. 70, No. 4, April, 1957.
