Professor Henry E.S. Freemantle (1874 – 1931) was a scholar and politician. He arrived in Cape Town in February 1899 to become Professor of English and philosophy at the South African College. He late became the member of the Cape Legislative Assembly for Uitenhage. From the Dictionary of South African Biography, volume I, pages 302/4.
